Day 31, Drake Passage – Drake Lake redux!

The feared Drake Shake is turning into another Drake Lake as the seas are relatively calm and we continue north towards Ushuaia.  Tomorrow night around 6 PM we will arrive in Ushuaia, which is ahead of the original cruise schedule that scheduled us arriving the next day at 7 AM.

COFFEE CHAT

Capt Mercer was the guest at Coffee Chat this morning which was held in the Main Stage as opposed to the Explorers Lounge.  He discussed how he loves to write and has a collection of pens, stationery and stamps.  His book, “A Captain’s Journey” has been for sale in the bookstore for the last few days.  Afterwards, he moved to the main floor, where he autographed copies of his book, while a ship’s photographer took pictures.

EXPEDITION TEAM

Early this afternoon, while I was busy in the casino, Judy stopped by the Crow’s Nest for a Q & A session held by the Expedition Team:  Jason Kelly, Gabriela Roldan and Peter Carey.  They have been presenting lectures everyday in the Main Stage as well as providing commentary during our daily scenic cruising.

CUSTOM SANDWICH BAR

One of the special features during the Grand World Voyage in the Lido Market is the Custom Sandwich Bar and a Sushi Station.  This is very popular with a short line that moves quickly.

Grilled Turkey and Swiss!

ALA MODE

Tonight’s show featured the Holland America Singers and Dancers performing “Ala Mode”.  The singers displayed their outstanding vocals with tunes such as “New Shoes”, “S.O.S”, “Sweet Dreams”, “I Love you Baby” and ending the show with “Wind of Change” by the Scorpions.

PILLOW GIFT

Back in the cabin, we discovered our latest “pillow gift”, a Chilean Fjords Cruise Chart to allow us to track our progress over the next week as we transit the Chilean Fjords.
